Briefly in English

Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat or YS (Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra) is a full-sized symphony orchestra, which gives concerts, organizes balls and takes part in various academic festivities.

The YS was founded in 1926, but it carries on the traditions of the Academic Orchestra (founded in Turku already in 1747) as its immediate successor.

The majority of players are studying at the University of Helsinki or in other academic institutions of the capital region, such as Aalto University, University of the Arts Helsinki and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

Weekly rehearsals are held on Mondays at 18:00–21:00 in the city centre area. Player auditions take place every September and also occasionally during the semester. For the next auditions please see more here.
